All documents submitted in support of an application or petition must include complete translation into English. In addition, there must be a certification from the translator indicating that the translation is complete and accurate and attesting to his or her competence as a translator. See 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) .

Any document containing foreign language submitted to USCIS shall be accompanied by a full English language translation which the translator has certified as complete and accurate, and by the translator’s certification that he or she is competent to translate from the foreign language into English.

The translator should translate the document word for word, and add the following language at the bottom:

I, (Name of Translator), am competent to translate from (Language of Document) into English, and certify that the translation of (Title of Document) is true and accurate to the best of my abilities.

The certification format preferred by USCIS also includes the translator’s signature, name, address and date of certification. You must attach certificate for the translated document. Example in Attached file.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requires submissions of “certified translations for all foreign language documents.” To comply, any document submitted to USCIS containing foreign language must be accompanied by:

1.a complete and accurate English language translation; and

2.a certification from the translator indicating that the translation is complete and accurate, and that he or she is competent to translate from the foreign language into English.

You must provide a translation of any document that is not in English.

Exception: You do not need to translate your passport if your passport is primarily written in a language other than English.

The foreign document must be translated entirely, including signatures, dashes, seals, and stamps. If something is not clear, the English translation should note it as “not legible.”

The translation must match the visual format of the foreign document.

The translation does not need to be notarized if it is being submitted in the U.S. (to the USCIS office).
